Application of magnesium carbonate in lubricant purifying and dispersing agent.

Lube oil purifier is an indispensable additive in various internal combustion engine oils, which is a colloidal dispersion system formed by surfactant dissolved in diluted oil and a large number of nanoparticles (usually inorganic alkaline compounds). The surfactant in the dispersion system has the functions of colloid solubility, solubilization and clean dispersion, which can inhibit the serious pollution caused by incomplete combustion of fuel and oxidation of lubricating oil in internal combustion engines; the alkaline nano-magnesium carbonate component can effectively neutralize the harmful inorganic and organic acids generated by fuel and lubricating oil in the process of use, slow down the process of oil oxidation, reduce the corrosion and wear of engine, and prolong the service life of oil and engine.

The metal carbonates in the gel nuclei that provide the alkaline reservoir should be nanoscale. Many nano powders, especially those of inorganic salts and metal oxides, are highly prone to agglomeration into clusters due to their huge surface energy, which in turn affects application performance. The use of surfactant modification to reduce the surface energy is an important means to inhibit the aggregation of magnesium carbonate nano powders. The nano-magnesium carbonate for lubricant purifying and dispersing agent has good colloidal stability, purifying and dispersing properties with thermal oxidation stability.

Due to the weak metallicity of magnesium than calcium, the carbonation process of nano magnesium carbonate in the preparation of lube oil clean dispersant is more difficult than calcium salt, and the nano particles have a large specific surface area, often agglomerated into secondary particles, forming the so-called “jelly”. In addition...
